7.62x54r Ammo

The 7.62x54mmR cartridge has been used in Russia since 1891, when it was introduced with the Mosin-Nagant bolt-action rifle. It was used throughout the following periods of Imperial and Soviet rule and, though long out of use as a regular infantry caliber, continues in service today in two specialized weapons: the PKM machine gun and the Dragunov sniper rifle.

A typical round of 7.62x54mmR ammo fires a 150 or 180 grain bullet at 2,600-2,900 feet per second. This results in good long-range performance and gives the cartridge a well-deserved reputation in sniping and precision shooting.

A variety of 7.62x54mmR ammo can be had ranging from corrosive military surplus to match grade ammo for high end target use. New production steel-cased ammo is made by Tula, Wolf, and Barnaul (manufacturer of the Bear series), while brass-cased ammo can be had from Prvi Partizan and Sellier & Bellot. This cartridge excels at taking deer and other game with soft point ammunition.
